How Long Does It Take to Process a Payment?

Learn how long ZimpleMoney payments take to process, when funds are deposited, and what it means if a payment shows as "pending," including holiday and weekend schedules.

Payments processed through ZimpleMoney take 5–6 bank days to complete, from the day payment instructions are sent to the day cleared funds are deposited. A "pending" status during this window is normal and expected — it does not mean there is a problem with the payment.

My Payment Shows as Pending, But the Money Already Left My Bank Account. Is Something Wrong? When Will the Payments Be Deposited Into My Account?

No — this is expected and not a sign of an error. Here's why:

  • When a payment is initiated, funds are withdrawn from the payer's bank account almost immediately (often within 1 bank day).
  • These funds are not deposited into the recipient's account until the full clearing process is complete. During this process, the payment will correctly show as "pending" in the ZimpleMoney system. The money isn't lost; it is in transit between banks while it clears.
  • It is normal for a payer to see the debit on their bank statement several days before the recipient sees the deposit. The "pending" status reflects the recipient's side of the transaction, not the payer's.

Here's How the 5–6 Day Timeline Works:

  • Day 1: ZimpleMoney sends payment instructions to the member's bank, and the payer's bank typically debits the account around this time.
  • Days 2–4: ZimpleMoney waits for the payment to clear between banks. The payment will show as pending during this stage.
  • Days 5–6: Cleared funds are deposited per the member's deposit instructions, and the pending status is removed.

What Could Cause a Delay After a Payment Is Withdrawn?

Bank days are Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Reserve holidays. The following situations add a day to the start of processing:

  • Payments initiated Friday after 2:30 PM PT are processed the next bank day.
  • Payments initiated on a weekend are processed the next bank day.
  • Payments initiated on a Federal Reserve holiday are processed the next bank day.
  • Occasionally, the borrower's or lender's own bank can introduce additional processing time on their end, outside of ZimpleMoney's system.

When to Contact Support

Contact support if a payment has been pending for longer than 6 bank days, if the pending status hasn't updated after the expected deposit date, or if you see a discrepancy between the debited amount and the pending amount shown in ZimpleMoney.
